On March 18th, 2022, I started the process of meeting face to face with the voters of the 9th Congressional district to get off the bench and get my name on the ballot for the 2022 election. From the moment the very first person signed my nomination papers, and over the next 7 weeks of meeting people and receiving signatures, the focus of my campaign has been to advocate for the working middle class and our seniors and to help change the direction of our country and the policies and priorities of our Congress.
My campaign was never about my personal ambition to be someone. It was about us and the issues that matter to all of us. Over the past 20 weeks, I ran a self-funded campaign as an army of a few and along the way, we gathered the support and steam of prudent passionate people across the 9th. In the part of the district where we were given the equal opportunity to listen to the voters and be heard during this short period of time, the message from the people was loud and clear. The people are fed up with business-as-usual, and the establishments that serve the elitist interests of the few at the expense of the rest of us. They want candidates that understand their concerns, beliefs, and fears, can speak wide and deep about a full range of issues that affect us, and that will always put their interests first and foremost.
Across the 9th, where I was given the opportunity to listen and be heard, from Aquinnah, Barnstable, Dennis, Hanover, Hanson, Martha’s Vineyard, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Norwell, Rochester to Scituate, the voters made themselves overwhelmingly clear that Nurse Dan was their choice. And in other places like Brewster, Chatham, Gosnold, Harwich, Mashpee, and Yarmouth, the voters were almost evenly split. And in the places where our small grassroots army-of-the-few was not given the equal opportunity to make direct connections during our brief but consequential 2022 campaign, I want you to know that Nurse Dan is not going away and that I shall hear from all of you and share our vision and mission as we move our district, our commonwealth, and our country forward and upward towards 2024 and beyond.
I’m a citizen and taxpayer like you, and this was my first entry into politics. As I have said, I've been a career voter but never want to be a career politician. Everything I learned about campaigning I learned from you the voters along the way. Your advice, thoughts, and prayers did not fall on deaf ears and were not in vain. I'm grateful to all of you and I'm very optimistic about the common sense and decency of we the people.
Having had over 20,000 encounters with individuals has made it crystal clear to me that ordinary concerned citizens and taxpayers are tired of the status quo from the political establishments and bureaucracies and are tired of self-promoting candidates and wannabe career politicians that don’t actually want to do something for we the people. This campaign was always about we the people, about a constitutional government of the people, by the people and for the people, and about our individual rights, freedoms, and liberties to achieve our slice of the American dream for ourselves and our families.
Over the next 24 months, we will remain vigilant and diligent in our purpose to advocate for the working and middle class and our seniors against the self-interests of the elitists, globalists, and corporatists who seek to redact our Bill of Rights from the U.S. Constitution to make themselves richer and more powerful and make us poorer and weaker.
I am grateful for the support and confidence showed by you in the most contested primary race in the Commonwealth in 2022, called two days after election day. My self-funded, issues-based, grassroots campaign of the people, by the people, and for the people went toe-to-toe with a well-funded, light-on-the-issues politically-connected establishment campaign, operating for more than two years. I knew when I started this campaign several months ago that this might very well be as much about 2024 as it was about 2022. It will take more than just one election cycle to change the direction of our country and the policies and priorities of our Congress.
Make no mistake about it, I was in this to win it now, and with the support of the people, we came close to defeating the establishment. But there are no moral victories in running for public office. And even though apparently just 1,300 votes out of 46,993 ballots cast separated the two candidates, the voters have spoken in the 2022 MA-9th Congressional Republican Primary.
Nurse Dan will see you across the district after the general election on November 8th, all the way through 2024.
God Bless America and God Bless Us the People!
Thank you and best regards,
Nurse Dan
